Runs on low ~70% of the time, which means longer runtimes, better humidity pull (we typically see 45-50% indoor RH all summer), quieter operation, and noticeably more even temperatures room-to-room. Two-stage has a high and low setting — runs on low ~70% of the time, kicks to high on hot days. Variable-speed modulates anywhere from 30% to 100% capacity continuously, so it almost never shuts off. Variable-speed gives you the smoothest comfort and tightest humidity control; two-stage is the budget-conscious middle ground that solves most SW Indiana homes.

04 Will my old furnace work with a new variable-speed AC?

Often, but not always. Variable-speed ACs need a matched ECM blower in the furnace to deliver the airflow benefits — pairing one with a single-stage PSC blower wastes most of the upgrade. If your furnace is past 12 years and lacks an ECM motor, doing both as a matched system makes more sense than half-measuring.

05 Are rebates available on higher-SEER2 systems?
